What better way to kick off the school year than to hear advice from a friend working behind the scenes in higher education?
Magan Perez is the Benefits Manager at Gateway Technical College where she oversees the benefits offered to the college, FMLA, Worker’s Compensation, onboarding of new employees, and as of last year, coordinating the college's COVID-19 response.
With the start of another school year, Magan’s advice to students is “to not give up and to continue chasing your dreams." She's got a sign in her office that reads "Dreams don't work unless you do." She says that there will be obstacles that are difficult and uncomfortable and you will only grow and achieve by not giving up. While she won't be the first to say education is important, she deeply believes it is and that there are multiple avenues for that education to help you achieve your goals and dreams.
More about Magan: Magan says that while some aspects of her job don’t change, there are many aspects that change consistently so she's in an ever growing learning cycle. Furthering her education and extending her knowledge are crucial for not just professional--but also personal--growth.
Magan’s favorite part about working on the KCFB Board is being involved in something so necessary and immediate in her community. Working at a college means learning is continuous and she values the constant growth and learning that is KCFB as we adjust based on community needs.
In her free time, Magan could be found spending time with family, working on cars, and reading. Her daughter will be 3 in a few months so she also enjoys spending time watching her grow, learn and develop her personality. When asked what words best describe herself, Magan said “persistent, helpful, adaptable, strategic, loyal, friendly, and dedicated” and WOW are those all very true.
Thank you Magan for all you do for KCFB, your countless contributions are so appreciated.
